We tested from three IPs (US-East, EU-West, US-West via VPN) in August 2026. Results:

None of the three behaviors match what the URL used to do (2019–2022): serve a genuinely random video from the site's index, then let you press "next" for another.

Why the button probably went away

Nothing was announced. Best-informed guesses, in order of likelihood:

  1. Engagement math. A truly random video has a low retention rate. Algorithmic recommendations retain 3–5x better. When the metrics team ran the A/B, random lost.
  2. Content-moderation risk. A random pick can surface content moderators haven't hand-reviewed. Algorithmic recommendations only surface content that's already been vouched for by engagement signals.
